Paul T. Coleman Pavilion

Paul T. Coleman Pavilion

Johnson University

Knoxville, Tennessee

The design of this 12 column pavilion is based upon the classical Greek/Roman monopteron – a domed temple with a colonnade built of stone, usually marble. The concept was to provide a visually impressive focus for student activities along the bank of an existing pond – a place with connotations of traditional learning but informal usage. This project combines the art of ancient stone masonry, coupled with modern technology, to produce a visually stunning work of architecture.
