An existing jail was renovated and linked to an adjacent commercial building within a very tight urban site. The jail is located in downtown Dayton behind the historic Dayton courthouse where the famous Scopes trial was held in 1925 and had to be sensitive to this historic setting. A design concept was developed to build a separate structure over the existing buildings supporting a new roof which gave the entire complex a unified and historic look.
