Ayres Hall
Ayres Hall Renovation
The University of Tennessee
Knoxville, Tennessee
This historic restoration, remodeling and interior furnishing of Ayres Hall which sits atop “the Hill” – the original campus – was completed ninety years after the original building opened. Work included restoration of the exterior, installing clocks in the tower, and constructing a north entrance plaza based upon an original 1919 design that was not built. The interior was completely gutted and either replaced or restored to original. A façade lighting system was designed to highlight the main tower – the historic icon that is most identified with the University’s Knoxville campus, creating the “beacon shinning bright” that is immortalized in the University’s alma mater.
